Catch up.

Catch up. Drawing Luke Hockley.

Dear Self,

Today I have let myself play a bit of catch up.

I turned the alarm off and just woke up when I woke up.

Then I stayed in bed and read a book, for ages.

After that a lazy cup of tea, breakfast and a bit of singing and playing the piano.

Now all I need is some exercise and an Alexander Technique lesson and I’ll be ready to Campfire.

Love

Luke

Bribery.

Bribery. Drawing Luke Hockley.

Bribery. Drawing Luke Hockley.

Dear Self,

We’re up to bribery now.

It’s getting late and, today, I have been in three different states of Australia (literally) and I am on the edge of not being bothered writing this letter to myself that I have written for a hell of a lot of days in a row and…I promised myself a chocolate biscuit once I got it done.

Which is totally ridiculous.

I’m bribing myself to do something that I really want to do.

That’s the human condition, right there.

Luke

I want to, but…

I want to but… Drawing Luke Hockley.

I want to but… Drawing Luke Hockley.

Dear Self,

I want to, but it is too close.

It is just there.

Just a simple reach, and I have bridged the space between us.

I want to, but the risk seems too great.

I want to, but I am ridiculous and wild and strange.

Hurt and uncertain.

Weird. Wounded.

And you will see that.

I want to, but I don’t know if I’m ok with seeing you seeing me like that.

I want you to ask how I am doing,

So, I can tell you.

Mostly – I’m ok, but today…

Today, I’m not really that ok…

That’s what I want.

Sharp contrast.

Sharp contrast. Drawing Luke Hockley.

Sharp contrast. Drawing Luke Hockley.

Dear Self,

It surprises me to see how I can feel both incredibly successful and like I am a reasonably high functioning human and like I am flailing around and incapable of behaving in normal human ways.

It is such a sharp contrast.

A contradiction that makes no sense.

I just don’t know what to do with it all.

I suspect being a little bit kind towards myself would be a reasonable start.

No point blaming someone else. Drawing Luke Hockley.

No point blaming someone else. Drawing Luke Hockley.

Dear Self,

All of this is under my control.

I’ve chosen to do all the things that I am doing.

I get all the benefits of the investments I am making.

No point blaming someone else for the choices I’ve made, as fun and satisfying as that might be.

Joy and space.

Joy and space. Drawing Luke Hockley.

Joy and space. Drawing Luke Hockley.

Dear Self,

Today I am looking for joy and space in each moment.

It could be one of those days where I get grumpy that I’m not doing the things I want to do…but I put all of these things in my day. I chose to do them, I’ve decided the compromise is worth it.

Which means I will reap the rewards of all the seeds I am sowing.

There is no reason not to enjoy the choices I have made.

Luke

A big week. Drawing Luke Hockley.

Dear Self,

It's a big week coming up…I think I can skip over this kind of information, until it is too late.

But it’s worth stopping for a moment and acknowledging that things are going to be busy.

Right.

Making things with my hands. Drawing Luke Hockley.

Dear Self,

I find great joy and satisfaction in making things with my hands.

Before I’ve shown anyone what I did, before anyone else even knows it has happened…it brings me a kind of contentment that I can’t really explain.

Lucky I don’t need to explain it…I can just enjoy it.

I use the internet to avoid myself.

I use the internet to avoid myself. Drawing Luke Hockley.

Dear Self,

I use the internet to avoid myself.

I just did it then.

Endless clicking and searching, anything really, just so that I don’t have to turn up to this conversation with myself.

That’s why having this moment locked in is so great.

There is somewhere to come back to.

Something I can use as a reference point.

An agreed point of reflection.

And so…

I come back.

Dear Self,

Sleep is calling.

After a very unproductive night last night…now it is calling me.

I hope to hit the pillow and be out like a light.

I’m ready to turn this day over and start a fresh.
