Cold air.

Cold air. Drawing Luke Hockley.

Dear Self,

The air this morning has that ‘just blown off the snowy mountains’ feel to it.

And I haven’t even been outside yet.

Winter is here. It seemed to take a while arrive this year.

I couldn’t get myself out of bed this morning and yesterday I didn’t feel like exercising. It can be hard to get moving when it is this chilly.

I did, however, get going. I went for a run in the cold air yesterday and, of course, it was great.

A fresh blast to get the day moving.

Now I just have to get myself off the couch and out of the house.

No worries!

Love

Luke

Dear Self,

A picture is emerging.

Slowly but with a certain clarity and purpose, it is unveiling itself.

I don’t want to call it too early, don’t want to jinx things…but I can feel something is forming.

Fingers crossed.

Love

Luke

Grab the baton and run.

Grab the baton and run. Drawing Luke Hockley.

Dear Self,

I remember running relays when I was a kid.

I don’t think I was particularly good at it or anything…but I really liked that feeling of someone running towards me with the baton, my only job was to be ready to grab the baton, run and then cleanly hand that baton on to the next person.

Any double guessing or mucking around at the moment the baton was coming towards me was futile and, quite possibly, a dangerous distraction.

Just be ready, run in rhythm with the person carrying the baton, reach back and grab that baton and run.

Right now, I think I might benefit from this approach in my life.

Looking at now.

Looking at now. Drawing Luke Hockley.

Dear Self,

When things don't work out the way I had imagined it is easy to know what I should have done but not so easy to imagine what I should do next.

I think it is profoundly unhelpful to churn over all the pieces for the sake of churning over all the pieces…but what to do with all that stuff?

Is looking forward even helpful?

Maybe it’s about looking at now?

Maybe that’s all I can do with all that I have done?

Certainly unexpected.

Certainly Unexpected. Drawing Luke Hockley.

Dear Self,

Life is certainly unexpected.

It seems like things are travelling in one direction...and then the wind changes and things are heading on a totally different course.

That’s all.

Luke.

I am blah.

I am blah. Drawing Luke Hockley.

I am blah. Drawing Luke Hockley.

Dear Self,

I am blah.

It’s not a very nice way to be.

Nor is it a disaster.

It’s just a bit in between.

Blah is a nowhere land.

It's not any of the strong emotions that I have clear names for.

It’s like a version of life jetlag.

Something about the rhythm of life feels out of sync.

And I just find myself…blah.

Luke

Not on my feet.

Not on my feet. Drawing Luke Hockley.

Dear Self,

I am not on my feet.

I feel all disoriented, discombobulated.

I don’t understand how all the bits fit together.

I don’t get how to make sense of it all.

I just don’t get it.

Craving sleep.

Craving sleep. Drawing Luke Hockley.

Dear Self,

I’m carrying the weight of expected sleep around with me.

I’ve had a pretty big weekend (Campfire last night) and didn’t quite get the sleep I need last night.

Which makes me tired, pleasantly tired, right about now.

I spent the afternoon watching TV that I didn’t really need to watch so that I could drift in and out of snoozing.

I can’t wait to hit the pillow to get my hands on some of that sleep that I am craving.

The breaking wave.

The breaking wave. Drawing Luke Hockley.

Dear Self,

Today I’m playing a bit of catch up.

Giving myself a little breathing space so that I can let the wave I’ve been on settle and move back out into the ocean.

There will be another wave to ride any moment now.

But I like to step back, see and enjoy this moment.

Love

Luke

Gentle steps.

Gentle steps. Drawing Luke Hockley.

Dear Self,

Looking at things from a different view.

Literally.

Sitting and writing today from a new spot, seeing a different view as I do something I do a lot.

It’s delicate, this thing, whatever it is, that I hold…or that I think I hold.

Fragile.

Being alive. Consciousness.

Ah, what a blessing and a curse.

Joy and hurt.

Gentle steps from here.

Gentle steps.

Love

Luke
